I was born and raised in Toronto to Azorean parents. I live news, cities and immigration.

I love radio and am addicted to the CBC. During a recent car ride to Quebec City, I forced everyone to listen to CBC radio for the full 16 hours there and back. Three of the four passengers converted.

I'm not only interested in producing but also analyzing (news) media.

Produced/Created

  • I hosted a weekly music program in the summer of 2008 called Sobremesa on CKLN-FM. It featured contemporary sounds of the Portuguese-speaking diaspora, including hip hop from Lisbon, indie music from São Paulo, pop from Vancouver, etc.
  • I was a member of the Wench Radio Collective for two years, where I produced and hosted a weekly, one-hour news and popular culture program on CIUT-FM.
  • “A Profile of Portuguese-Canadian Youth Groups”, (Fall/Winter 2005), Quinas Magazine.

Analyzed

  • Race and Gender in Canadian Magazines (2002), MediaWatch Canada.
  • I was a member of the Anti-Racism Media Education Collective, where I co-designed and facilitated over 30 popular education workshops on anti-racism and media literacy for elementary and high schools and community organizations across the GTA.
