Colleen Tang's aspirations of becoming a journalist started at a young age. In her elementary school days, she got the writing bug and created her own mini newspaper with a bunch of her friends during recess. It was not until she went to the University of British Columbia that she was given her first print experience. There she spent the rest of her undergraduate days in the basement where the student newspaper, the Ubyssey, resided as a staff writer and eventually as a news editor. From UBC she earned a Bachelor of Arts majoring in English, emphasis Literature, and a minor in Political Science. Besides writing at the Ubyssey, she also was an editor for the Journal of International Affairs, a student journal run by the International Relations Students Association at UBC. Colleen continued her pursuit of journalism as an editorial assistant at Fringe magazine (a pilot project attempt by the Vancouver International Fringe Festival) and an editorial intern at Western Living Magazine. She is currently a freelance journalist based in Toronto and is finishing up her first year as a masters student at Ryerson University in journalism. She will be interning at CityNews.ca and CBCNews.ca this upcoming summer. In her spare time she enjoys scrapbooking, making homemade cards, playing the piano and playing tennis.
